DUSK is a collaboration between NEUMAYR and STEEL exploring nature within 16kb of onchain code. Memory, the decay of time and beauty, retro games and sci-fi merge within this tiny world. Starling murmurations were the starting point and now become a metaphor for time slipping through our fingers. DUSK is an art installation that can be viewed across devices, experienced in virtual reality or projected onto a wall, the viewer decides.

There are 38 works in this collection: 37 are limited edition and the Ukraine version is open edition. Each becomes a time machine holding the fragility and transience of memories long gone- a message in a bottle.

The edition is 1,000. There are also 2 Artist Proof sets used to finalise the collection and 2 presentation sets without edition numbers, these act as a counterpoint and complete record.
NEUMAYR is curious about science and the human condition. This runs through his career as a data scientist with specialisms in algorithm and software engineering. An education in Computational Science, Molecular Dynamics and Genetics has been applied in the medical sector, notably developing algorithms for heart surgery and the treatment of patients with drug dependencies. This collection was approached from an academic perspective and artworks treated like bioinformatic visualisations. STEEL comes from an arts background. From 2013-2020 he wrote and directed a design degree in Beirut, Lebanon. Aware of the political instability, corruption and aftermath of the civil war, he sought to re-define creative practice for designers to explore the unseen and unwanted. Only through the truth of personal identity: family histories, culture, heritage etc. can a dynamic shift be made. DUSK is an interactive real-time particle simulation that can handle a large number of boids and has organic GPU accelerated graphics. Being onchain means it has no dependencies and fits the strict size limitations of the blockchain.
To make this collection, all algorithms were selected thoughtfully, implemented from scratch and optimised for small code size and high performance simultaneously. The experimental minimum URL encoding can fit almost 30% more code onchain than the equivalent widely used base64 encoding.
DUSK uses a KD-Tree based nearest neighbour algorithm, an optimised version of the Floyd-Rivest selection and the seminal Boids simulation from the mid eighties by Craig W. Reynolds.
